Snow and Ice World festival in Harbin, China

Harbin city, in the far North East of China, is a bitterly cold place in winter with temperatures often blow -24°C. Where better to hold the worlds largest Snow and Ice Festival. Every year during winter, several area of parkland around the city of Harbin and transformed in to massive cities of ice. The carved ice is filled with lights causing the place to come alive at night. A must see event for the winter traveller.

Harbin, in the far north east of China, is known for it’s cold weather. So you might expect that most tourist go in summer. But no, you’d be wrong. The city is famous for it’s Snow and Ice World Festival every winter. This is a small city sized theme park built entirely from ice. Lights run inside the ice giving the site an other worldly feel. Like some set from an episode of Dr Who. But this is no film set. These are real buildings made of ice. Tourists travel from all over the world, braving the -28C weather, to see reproductions of some of the worlds most famous landmarks, made into ice.
