Yuyuan Garden, Shanghai

Classical Chinese Gardens are chaotic and restrained, simple but complex, open but enclosed. They are full of wondrous contradictions. This pool and building are in the middle of Shanghai’s Yuyuan gardens. An excellent escape from the noise and traffic of the city.

The Bund at night, Shanghai
The new district of Pudong in Shanghai, is a spectacular place to walk around in the evening. I like to wander down to the park on the shore line of the Huangpu River. With the skyscrapers and towers of Pudong behind you, you can look out across the river to the old part of Shanghai, known as the Bund. At night, the lighting on the buildings is spectacular.
