UNESCO World Heritage Sites

There are 33 world heritage sites in China that have been inscribed on the UNESCO world heritage site list. I have been to many of them and am progressively ticking them off each year. The sets in this collection contain my photographs of all the sites I have visited.

Note that some sites are split over multiple sets. This is because some world heritage sites are geographically spread over two or more locations. For example, the Imperial Palaces site includes both the Forbidden city in Beijing and the Imperial Palace in Shenyang. So I have a set of each location.

A short list of my person favourites and also which photos other people have marked as a favouite or commented on or gained interestingness.

Classical Chinese Gardens

Throughout my travels in China, I have visited a great many classical Chinese Gardens. Many of them are recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. At first, I struggled to understand them. But over time, their simplicity and stylisation has grown on me. So I have put together here a collection of my classical Chinese garden photographs others to enjoy.

Night Shots

Photographs from various locations but all shot at night. Most of these have been done without the aid of a tripod.

England

Photos taken south of the border, in that other country, England.

China

I have been living in China since February 2006. During that time I have travelled extensively throughout the country. The sets below show my complete collection of photographs taken during these travels. This is an unfiltered selection. My bad shots and my good shots are all here. Also I have not altered or photoshopped these beyond minor tweeks in contrast or the occasional straightening of a squint horizon.

China is an amazing country and if you haven't had the change to visit yet, you must make plans soon.

This site was founded in the year 2000 to showcase my photography. The subject matter is natural history, travel and landscape photography. The majority of the work is photography of China. There is a small section covering my homeland of Scotland.

I have been living in China since the begining of 2006. In the time since then, I have taken the opportunity to travel the lenth and breadth of China. The country, China, is a vast land of varied landscapes and cities. I have tried to document here the veriety that can be found in China. Both rural and urban China are covered. I have included many famous and historic places from China but also, within the gallery, are some unique and little known sights that few westerners have seen. Although China has opened up to foreign travel and more and more tourists come here, the country still has a air of mystic about it. Few people venture far from the main tourist sites. Much of the interier and the north east of China remain little known to the west. Accompaning the photographs, I have included detailed descriptions such that the reader might come to better understand China. I have also provided links to other websites that may prove interesting should you wish to research deaper into the subject of these photographs.

This web site is intended for your pleasure and entertainment only. We do not try to sell you anything. However if you do want to use or obtain a print of any of the pictures please contact me at derek@stylegallery.co.uk
